Pick Up Lines Week 11 Fanatsy Football

by Tom O'Mara

"Keep it... that, ummm... keep it..."
These are the words of a friend of mine who is in the process of moving. She has lived in the same apartment for over eight years, and has accumulated a ton of stuff... actually, what is bigger than a ton?!?! I'm not sure, but an episode of Hoarders comes to mind. Now that she has to move, the task of packing became quite an event. The problem is... she doesn't want to get rid of anything! She's got corks, from wine bottles, "Keep them!" (There's over 300 of them!!! What would one do with those?!?!?)
"Keep that! That's the paper towel that I wiped the sweat from my forehead when i gave birth to my daughter!" Ok, ok... that's an exaggeration but how does one accumulate all of this stuff?!? And now... she has to make some serious decisions. She CAN'T possibly keep it all! I mean, who needs FOUR, yes FOUR, automatic wine bottle openers? (Wine, obviously, is her favorite drink.) Really? A yoga mat? Have you EVER done yoga? Good thing she has that kayak oar... in case she ever buys a kayak. Decisions... decisions... decisions... They have to be made.

Now, YOU, have decisions to make too. As we approach playoff time, do you really need that second handcuff running back? Seriously, are you EVER going to play THAT backup wide receiver? These are the decisions you NEED to make. (Seriously? over 300 corks? And we're keeping them for what again?)

When putting in your waiver claims, whether it's to cover an injury or a bye week fill-in, you need to figure out which player to cut ties with. Sometimes, you'll be right. Sometimes, you'll be kicking yourself- I dropped Marques Colston last week in one league... He's done nothing all year, No TDs, had an injury- I saw NO TIME that I would ever play him. Of course, Sunday night he goes out and scores a touchdown with a bunch of catches! Oh well... you win some, you lose some.... unless you're my friend, in which case, you keep some, you keep some more.

These are players that are available in leagues. As always, If Zac Stacy or TY Hilton are available, please pick them up... and then, immediately increase your Christmas present budget.

Ryan Fitzpatrick
Jake Locker's season ending Lisfranc injury gives the starting job to Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick can be a serviceable QB because he does have experience as a starter. I wouldn't expect too much from him, but if you're desperate, give him a look. I've had that rug since i was a baby. I don't care if its plaid and stained... keep it.
Matt Flynn
As I predicted last week, Matt Flynn has signed with the Green Bay Packers. With Seneca Wallace now injured, and the practice squad/3rd string QB starting, Flynn WILL be the starter within a week or two. Flynn has experience with the system in Green Bay, and could be a valuable addition until Aaron Rogers is ready to come back. Oh it's my VCR... I need to keep that! Put it in the box with my BetaMax player, My Walkman and my 8-track player.

Jason Campbell
With the bevy of QB injuries this season, Jason Campbell can be an above average starting QB. He's got the arm, the mobility & the weapons in Cleveland to put up some big fantasy numbers. The journeyman QB has really never been given a good shot in the NFL and there may be a bit of a chip on his shoulder to prove something! Oh WOW! It's the first batch of lint hair I cleaned out of my daughter's belly button! I HAVE to save that!

Running Backs

Andre Brown
Brown is and will be the starter for the remainder of the year for The NY Giants... and he looked great on Sunday. As I stated last week, I've always thought since day 1, that Brown was a better back than David Wilson, and with Wilson on season ending IR, Brown will have the chance to prove it... if he can stay healthy. 6 Pairs of crutches! Well, you never know when you'll need 'em!

Donald Brown
Trent Richardson is terrible. Brown isn't. Aww... the toast from the first breakfast in bed my daughter made me. The mold is the petina! Keep it.

Brian Leonard
With Mike James fracturing his ankle in Monday night's game, the running back duties will fall to Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey. Leonard received most of the work on Monday, and looked good in the role. If I had to speculate, Leonard would be my choice for taking the job and running with it... pun intended! Yup, i need all of those deflated inner tubes. You never know when they'll come in handy!

Wide Receiver

Riley Cooper
Nick Foles loves Cooper like my friend loves wine. Enough said. Let's stop for a minute. This is hard. I need a glass of wine.

Rishard Matthews
Matthews had a breakout game on Monday night playing from the slot position. With Brandon Gibson out for the year, Matthews should see quite a few more games like this.  With Mike Wallace drawing the coverage, the middle of the field should be open for Matthews to take advantage of. I Can't! I just can't do this anymore! Why are you throwing away my 14" black and white tube television!?!?!

Griff Whalen
Total gut call here. If you're league is deep, and I mean SUPER CRAZY deep, you can take a chance on Whalen. Andrew Luck likes Whalen. They played together in college, and Luck is the reason that the Colts have Whalen. He's gotten 3 receptions in two straight games, and the Colts offense managed nothing this past weekend. I could see Whalen geting 7-8 targets per game from here on, and that could be helpful in a super whoa crazy crazy (thanks Matthew Berry!) league. Thank god we're done! Wait, that was just ONE closet?!?! Where's the wine!

... as always, if you have any questions regarding your lineup/team or you just want to bash me for any bad advice, i can be found on twitter @celtictso

Good Luck this week.
