Studs and Duds week 14

Dance with the one that brung ya

(Studs and Duds week 14)

by Paul Batts

The phrase was made popular by former University of Texas football coach Darrell Royal. In 20 years as head coach for the Longhorns Darrell Royal won 167 games and three National Championships-he knew what he was doing.

How does this pertain to fantasy football? It’s playoff time and if you’re reading this you probably have some tough decisions to make. If you’re in the playoffs you most likely have a solid squad-but some of us have at least one hole.

If you’re lucky, you’re roaring into the playoffs riding a hot player like Dez Bryant or Calvin Johnson.Obviously you’re going to stick with these super studs if you have them-but some of us aren’t as fortunate.A lot of us have been rotating spots because of injuries (Maurice Jones-Drew) or under performers (Dwayne Bowe). If you’ve been active on the waiver wire you may have backed your way into the playoffs-carried by a surprising talent like Bryce Brown or Cecil Shorts.

One thing that you have to remember is what (or who) got you there.Don’t get too cute-it can(and will) burn you.Trust me-I’m speaking from experience.I learned my lesson last year when I benched my starting defense(Seattle) in the playoffs because I was playing matchups(Rams).Seattle went on to score 21 points to the Rams three-I lost by eight and learned my lesson.Learn from my mistake and “dance with the one that brung ya”.
